About our counsellor – Terri Forester
Terri Forester (RTCC) is a recent graduate from the Kelowna College of Professional Counselling and is registered with the Association of Cooperative Counselling Therapists of Canada.
She provides counselling for the women’s shelter’s in-house clients as well as up to 10 free sessions for participants of the shelter’s outreach programs, being the women’s program Moving Forward and the men’s program Moving Mountains.
She also has her own private practice and volunteers for the national Kids Help Phone on the crisis text line and the Revelstoke Hospice Society. Before becoming a counsellor Terri worked in the employment sector supporting and counselling individuals as they moved through their emotions of losing and finding work. This piqued her interest in pursuing further education.
Terri grew up in Ontario and previously called Calgary and Hinton, A.B. home for 14 years. She arrived in Revelstoke in 2016 and loves it here for many reasons.
“I think the summers here are fantastic, they’re a hidden gem. I love the flow of the Columbia River, the life it brings,” she says. “I think the Revelstoke community is like no other I’ve ever lived in. And while I really dislike the rainy season — it is a difficult time for me — the snowfall in winter here, it’s magical. I have never seen anything like it.”
People can come to Terri for a range of issues and some will need a single session while others may need more. Forester can also work with families or children on their own. Her therapy style is a mix, focusing on what works for her clients, and she brings a holistic understanding to her work with a background as a trained Reiki practitioner and EFT (emotional freedom technique)/tapping practitioner.
Terri offers counselling by appointment for the Revelstoke Women’s Shelter on Mondays and Thursdays between 9am and 4pm, and offers her private practice on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays by appointment only.
